Artist. He does videos, installations, paintings and objects, working with a wide range of materials. In electronic image, he often produces animated works, or works that bear some resemblance with animation. His pieces reveal a sharp awareness of the subjectivity formation devices found in consumeristic societies and their urban settings, as they underscore different individual strategies for survival amid the precariousness of community- and civilization-oriented discourses. From 1993 until 1997, he studied philology and fine arts at Pontifícia Universidad Católica del Peru, and photography at Instituto Gaudí, in Lima. From 2000 until 2003, he pursued a degree in Arts from Universidad de las Américas, in Puebla, Mexico. Acevedo was featured in the group exhibitions Así van las cosas, at the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA), 2013; En Perfecto Desorden, at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, in Madrid, 2007; the 29th São Paulo Art Biennial, in 2010; at the 11th Biennale de Lyon, France, in 2011, among others. Gabriel Acevedo has exhibited solo at the Arratia Beer Gallery in Berlim; at Galeria Leme in São Paulo; and at the Mori Museum in Tokyo. Lives and works in Lima.
