Fourth episode of Videobrasil on TV focuses on the Festival’s embracing of different languages

This Monday, 12.9, at 11:00 pm on SescTV, the fourth episode of the Videobrasil on TV series will air, focusing on “Expanded Circuits,” and looking to explore the Festival’s process of opening up to other art languages and consolidating its presence in the contemporary art scene.

Over the past thirty years, video and image in motion have assumed new positions, conversing with both the visual arts and cinema. To Solange Farkas, the curator, founder, and director of Videobrasil, the Festival’s opening process accompanies the transition of video from the black cube to the white cube: “video exits the dark room and begins relating to architectural spaces and other languages. “

On this episode, Carlos Nader discusses what is unique about Videobrasil, in that it managed to transition from electronic art to contemporary art “without letting go of being radical, while knowing how to adapt.” The artists Kiko Goifman, Letícia Ramos and Eder Santos speak up on the boundaries between video and other languages and media. In turn, Wagner Morales, Lenora de Barros, Lucas Bambozzi and Luiz Roque rememorate performances staged in different Festival editions, and reflect about the relationship between performance and video.

Other people who have been a part of Videobrasil’s history, like the curators Chris Mello, Julia Rebouças and Giselle Beiguelman, draw a parallel between the Festival’s opening process and the new places video has come to occupy within the national art scene. According to Chris Mello, “the Festival has never fit neatly inside a box; it has always been outside the box.”

The fourth episode also features key figures such as Tatiana Blass, Gisela Motta, Leandro Lima, Sandra Kogut, Cao Guimarães, Gabriel Mascaro, Luiz Zerbini, Pablo Lobato, Kiko Goifman, Letícia Ramos, Eder Santos.
