Videobrasil at the Beijing Design Week 2014
On September 30 at 3:45 pm, a program of videos selected by Associação Cultural Videobrasil will be featured at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art – UCCA (Beijing, China), as part of the Beijing Design Week – BJDW. The show Voice, text and silence in the contemporary spatiality experience features work by artists from Latin America, Europe and the Middle East, integrated into the Videobrasil Collection during the shortlisting process for the 18th Contemporary Art Festival Sesc_Videobrasil held in 2013.
In narrated, textual or silent form, the artists have re-signified urban space, making it vidible to the interlocutor or to the viewer. The videos cast gazes on the cities and present possibilities in experiencing their specific urban contexts, some more and others less familiar to the authors. The artworks focus on different experiences through the prisms of politics, affection, fiction, tourism or temporary stays.
The video program features Iran’s Bita Razavi (Bosphorus: A Trilogy, 2012), Hungary’s Gusztáv Hámos (Hidden Cities, 2012), Peru’s Daniel Jacoby (Cuculí, 2011), Chile’s Enrique Ramírez (Brisas, 2008) and Brazil’s Roberto Bellini (Cordis, 2009).
The 2014 edition of the Beijing Design Week takes place from September 25 to 30 at several locations in the city of Beijing. The BJDW fosters design culture in China, articulating organizations, institutions and designers who share prospective visions. For the first time ever, this year’s program includes a film festival, with video screenings, meetings, workshops, academic debates and performances. The video program by Associação Cultural Videobrasil will be shown at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art – UCCA, a non-profit art center for contemporary art from China and the world.
In November, the same venue will host Videobrasil 30 Years video program, a retrospective of three decades of video production and its connections with the visual arts. The founder and director of Associação Cultural Videobrasil, Solange Farkas, will attend the opening at the UCCA. Farkas will also seize the occasion to keep track of the Israeli artist Nurit Sharett’s ongoing residency at the Red Gate, a result of the China Art Foundation Prize she received during the 18th Festival.
