Videobrasil at Red Gate Residency in Beijing, China
On Friday, October 31, at 3 pm, practicing artists in Beijing had a chance to meet with Solange Farkas, founder and director of Associação Cultural Videobrasil. Farkas gave an introduction to Videobrasil and well announced an open call to participants for the 19th Contemporary Art Festival Sesc_Videobrasil. Former participants Nurit Sharett, video artist from Israel, and Tao Hui, from China, shared their experiences from Videobrasil and their new works.
There has been an ongoing participation of Chinese artists in Sesc_Videobrasil Festivals. This participation began in 2003 when Solange Farkas invited curator Shulin Zhao to present a program of young Chinese artists working with video. Since then, around 30 Chinese artists have participated in several editions of the Festival; artist Liu Wei was awarded at the 17th Festival for the work Unforgettable Memory. For the upcoming Festival, Videobrasil plans to have wider Chinese participation, not only with video, but all other media as well.
This event was co-organized by Associação Cultural Videobrasil, Video Bureau and Red Gate Residency, Red Gate Gallery's residency program.
