Discussing Memories
Gathered at the Reflection Zone, which housed different activation actions for the Unerasable Memories exhibition, artists, curators, and guests have explored connections between History, memory and artistic production. The Public Programs meetings shared the space with educational activities and computer terminals, which granted access to Videobrasil’s online platforms, in a bid to deepen the exhibition’s curatorial concept and the experience of the artworks, as well as of the collection itself, made available to visitors at the onsite Video Library.
Curator Agustín Pérez Rubio devised three different panels which featured participating artists and collaborators of the “Unerasable Memories" book, launched during the second debate. The first panel, “How to Fight Historical Amnesia through Art? Responsibility and Artistic Commitment,” featured Agustín Pérez Rubio, the Unerasable Memories artists Aurélio Michiles, Enio Staub, Jonathas de Andrade, and Sebastian Diaz Morales, and also the critic and guest curator Octavio Zaya. The second panel, entitled “Videobrasil Collection: activation strategies.” Featuring Videobrasil’s director and curator Solange Farkas, researcher Eduardo de Jesus, and critic and journalist Fabio Cypriano, the meeting marked the exhibition book launch. Finally, Agustín Pérez Rubio, Ayrson Heráclito, and Rosângela Rennó participated in the panel “The renegade histories: indigenous and African memories.” Due to personal reasons, Vincent Carelli was unable to attend, but he sent his contribution—a letter read by Solange Farkas prior to the debate and made available on the exhibition’s Public Programs webpage. After that, a performance of Ayrson Heráclito’s Batendo Amalá wrapped up the Public Programs activities.
