Media in Transition
On November 18, 2015, Solange Farkas will represent Associação Cultural Videobrasil at the Media In Transition conference, held by Tate Modern in London, alongside the Getty Conservation Institute and the Getty Research Institute. The international conference will focus on the intersection of media art and technological change over time. The adaptations and responses of the museum and conservation fields to time-based art and constantly evolving media will be discussed over the course of three days.
A significant portion of the conference will cover case studies and interdisciplinary discussions of specific artworks by Joseph Beuys, Nam June Paik, Bruce Nauman and Bill Viola, who are part of Videobrasil’s collection and exhibition history — and many of whom premiered in Brazil via the Association.
One of the most relevant video collections in Latin America, the Videobrasil Collection comprises artworks featured in the Contemporary Art Festival Sesc_Videobrasil, artist-donated pieces, key international video art pieces, recorded performances, statements, documentaries, publications and documents, amounting to nearly 10,000 items — 4,500 of which have already been catalogued and are available for public consultation in the Video Library.
In addition to maintaining the technical apparatus required to conserve a collection of this sort updated, Associação Cultural Videobrasil dedicates itself to weaving a web of contents around said collection, including PLATFORM:VB and Channel VB. Exhibitions, video programs, and curatorial programs based on the Videobrasil Collection are some of the key strategies designed to activate the collection and constantly update the artworks it contains, putting them in touch with the public and making them available to new critical interpretations that attest to the relevance of said productions within the current art scene.
