Eleven works from Videobrasil Collection will be displayed in THAT FILM FOCUS, a film festival that became part of this year programming of THAT ART FAIR, in Cape Town, South Africa. The festival, held in collaboration with the shnit International ShortFilmFestival the Sunshine Cinema and Associação Cultural Videobrasil, will display a wide range of film productions from the Global South, including a selection of feature films and an evening dedicated to short. THAT THE FILM FOCUS festival will happens from February 20 to 27 with sessions every evening (except Sunday) between 7pm to 10pm at The Palms Décor and Lifestyle Centre in Woodstock.

With the title 'When the Southern Cross Talk', Videobrasil’s show features eleven pieces that revisit history from the perspective of the artist’s place of speech. It will be displayed on the nights of Thursday and Friday, February 25 and 26, organized in two programs. The first, “The intimacy is the Fact ” takes into account the narrative of emotional and intimate nature, giving importance to unofficial issues raised by its creators, with works by Bakary Diallo, Akram Zaatari, Sebastian Diaz Morales, Roberto Berliner and Virginia Medeiros. The second, “The exception is the Rule”, shows films whose story is told from the other’s perspective, even though the selected videos deconstruct traditional documental language. They are part of this program works Bita Razavi, Nurit Sharett, Enrique Ramirez, Vincent Carelli and Gabriela Golder. Solange Farkas and Diego Matos, respectively, Videobrasil’s director and coordinator of research and archive, curate the exhibition.

The screening will be presented at the fair as part of THAT FILM FOCUS, a weeklong film festival held in collaboration with shnit International ShortFilmFestival, Sunshine Cinema and Associação Cultural Videobrasil. The curated program will showcase a broad spectrum of outstanding cinematic production from across the Global South, with a selection of feature length films and an evening dedicated to short films.

THAT FILM FOCUS film festival is part of THAT ART FAIR official program, an art fair that takes place from February 17 to March 6, 2016. THAT ART FAIR is an initiative of ART AFRICA magazine, the leading and only African contemporary arts magazine to be founded and published from Africa, for Africa, by Africans. THAT FILM FOCUS runs from Saturday 20th – Saturday 27th February with screenings every evening (except Sunday) between 19h00 and 22h00 at The Palms Décor and Lifestyle Centre in Woodstock. R50 gets you through the door and tickets are available via Web tickets.  The opening party of THAT FILM FOCUS will happens on 20th Feb (Saturday), with shots and DJs.
