In the light of the project Deslocamentos (Displacements), by the artist-researcher and writer Marie Ange Bordas, the magazine Caderno Sesc_Videobrasil 09: Geographies in motion relates artworks and thoughts from her career – which has spanned Brazil, Europe, and Africa – with input from artists and thinkers who have influenced her investigations. The project was developed by Bordas over the course of ten years, and addressed the experience of transit by focusing on interaction with people who were forced to displace themselves, either due to being cornered by conflict, or pushed out by the economic machine.

Set to be launched on December 5 at the Sesc Pompeia Warehouse, the magazine explores this universe from the perspectives of territorialization and emotional cartographies, and features collaborations from artists and intellectuals like the renowned South African artist William Kentridge; the architect and researcher Ana Paula do Val; the Cuban artist María Magdalena Campos-Pons; the geographer and researcher Rogério Haesbaert; the Swiss writer, art critic and curator Simon Njami; and the Cameroonian intellectual Achille Mbembe, who has renewed postcolonial academic thinking and coined the term “afropolitanism” – which he has defined as "a way of being in the world, refusing on principle any form of victim identity — which does not mean that it is not aware of the injustice and violence inflicted on the continent and its people by the law of the world.” The material is illustrated with artwork by Marie Ange Bordas and María Magdalena Campos-Pons, and includes the flipbook Return, created by William Kentridge (in collaboration with the dancer Dada Masilo) using images from his video installation The Refusal of Time.
