The catalog was launched on occasion of the Contemporary African Art Show , opening the series of parallel productions released in between editions of Associação Cultural Videobrasil’s then already established Festival. Focusing on contemporary art languages in the African continent – with an emphasis on electronic media –, the event afforded Brazilian audiences a much needed opportunity to come into contact with recent productions from Africa, featuring artists who would later become household names, such as South Africa’s William Kentridge.
The exhibition book features an essay from curator Clive Kellner on the art-technology connection in the African art scene, and critical reviews on each of the participating artists by the likes of Antonio Malta, Octavio Zaya, Kendell Geers and Paul Edmunds. The book also contains summaries of all films shown in the Panorama of African Cinema, which ran parallel to the exhibition.
